The best Rio de Janeiro sunset is in Arpoador. The sunsets there are simply stunning. But they’re also crowded with hundreds, sometimes thousands of tourists. If you’re looking for a more intimate sunset, these are some of our favorite sunset spots in Rio.
Mureta da UrcaMap It
Urca is one of the most charming, and safest neighborhoods in Rio. One of this neighborhood highlights is the waterfront along the Guanabara Bay: 1.6 kilometers of stone-covered sidewalk where you can enjoy some of the most stunning sunsets in the City. There are many restaurants along the way where you can grab food an drinks then walk across the street and claim a seat along the waterfront. Probably the most popular spot is Bar da Urca, at the very end of the walkway. Thursdays and Fridays, there are lots of students from the nearby university. Saturday and Sundays the waterfront becomes an extension of the neighborhood resident’s living room.
Bring a bottle of wine, snacks, a blanket and enjoy a fabulous picnic with an incredible sunset. If you don’t have time to organize a picnic, you can get drinks at the Palaphita Kitch, a bar right by the water. If you are very active, you could jog/skate/bike around all around the Lagoa (8km) and finish with an ice cold coconut. The Lagoa is very popular on Saturdays and Sundays when locals who come to hang out with their friends and family.
Flamengo-Botafogo Map It
Take a stroll during sunset along the waterfront between Flamengo and Botafogo. In the Botafogo section you can see the sunset behind the Corcovdado (Christ the Redeemer). In the Flamengo section you don’t get to see the sun ‘set’, but the sunlight at the end of the day reflecting off the Sugar Loaf and across the Guanabara bay is simply magic. Check out our jont to Aterro do Flamengo for more information about this area.
