Pirate’s Cove Trail is as close to the Pacific as you can get. On a clear day, you can see ships off the coast for many miles. The trail hugs the shore line as it meanders its way up and down the valley, eventually descending to the cove.
Pirate’s Cove is close enough to the city, yet isolated from civilization. The vastness encountered along the trail brings solitude and peace.
What you should know
- Only 18 miles north of San Francisco on Highway 1
- You can get there from either Muir Beach or Tennessee Valley Beach. It’s a little closer to Muir Beach.
- Parking lots at Muir Beach and Tennessee Valley Trail can get ridiculously crowded on the weekends. Get there early.
- Dogs are allowed on leash, and for part of the trail, horses are allowed, too!
