The Claudio Coutinho Trail is an easy, 2km, paved path along the shoreline just behind the Sugarloaf in the Urca neighborhood. It can be combined with a hike to the Morro da Urca (the hill next to the Sugarloaf) or for the more adventurous this is also the start of trail that goes all the way up to the Sugarloaf (climbing experience and equipment is necessary to make it there).
Claudio Coutinho Trail Details
The trail is open from 6:00 to 18:00 every day (19:00 during the winter). Our favorite time to go is before sunset when the light reflects off the cliffs.
We recommend doing the trail around 15:30 or 16:00 and then head over to the Mureta da Urca on the other side of the neighborhood (15 minute walk) to watch a beautiful sunset. See below for "Jonts nearby".
To get to the head of the trail take any of the following public transportation options:
Metro + Bus
Metro (lines 1 or 2) to Botafogo Station. Follow signs to Exit F. Cross the street and take bus SP513.
from Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana take Bus Circular 01 (Circular 01)
from Flamengo, Lapa, Centro take Bus 107 (Urca)
Ask to be dropped off at the "Bondinho Pão de Açucar"
